The Science of Dream Amethyst

Dream Amethyst — also known as Chevron Amethyst — is a naturally occurring combination of purple amethyst and white quartz, forming in distinctive V-shaped or banded chevron patterns. This striking visual is the result of alternating growth phases: periods when iron-rich silica fluids deposited violet amethyst crystals were interrupted by surges of pure white quartz, creating the layered, striped effect unique to this variety.

Like all amethyst, it belongs to the macrocrystalline quartz family (SiO₂), with a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale and a trigonal crystal structure. The white bands are milky quartz — the same mineral, but formed without the iron impurities that produce amethyst's violet color. Together, they create a stone of remarkable visual contrast and geological complexity.

Spheres are cut and polished to radiate energy and light in all directions equally, making them one of the most intentional shapes in the crystal world — and one of the most visually striking.
